spinnerty guest mix
so here we are in our new home, it seems we have outgrown our old one. thanks to all our listeners we are exceeding 3-4000 downloads a month…big up. so for our first mix on our new site we have a special guest mix. we have been truly blessed with our guest’s on a deeper groove, this one however is a real coup. all the way from san francisco, we are proud to present an exclusive mix from spinnerty. dan finnerty started spinning recordslate 1997. and by his own admission started off about as amateur as you can get, “trying to scratch Liza Minnelli records on my parents old turntable and a radio shack mixer borrowed from a friend”. A few different things all came together to inspire him to get things moving. always being a jazz head (he played in jazz bands in middle school), the improvisational nature of turntablism sparked his interest. Around the same time, diving into groups like The Beastie Boys, KRS-ONE, Mixmaster Mike, and Gangstarr. his first residency was Wednesday nights at the Canopy Club in illinois. By the time he graduated, he was consistently performing 5 nights per week, hosting the radio show on WEFT, releasing mixtapes, seeing his name pop up in the local and national media, producing tracks, doing shows around the midwest, helping book and promote touring artists, and organizing events on campus with UC Hiphop. Two short weeks after graduating, he left it all behind and took a leap of faith in moving to San Francisco, where he still resides and is heavily involved in the city’s world famous bay area hip-hop scene. he has played with people like KRS-ONE, Diplo, Beni B, J Boogie, RJD2, Blueprint, Wildchild, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Lego, Psalm One, All Natural, The Opus, Heiruspecs, DJ Neil Armstrong, DJ Bles One, Galapagos 4, Mark Almaria, and Crown City Rockers to name a few. In 2003, Spinnerty was recognized for his studio skills by URB Magazine when his mix CD, “Play It On the Porch”, was selected in URB’s Top Ten of 2003. After producing tracks with several emcees and vocalists on a local level, 2006 saw the Spinnerty-produced track “City Life” appear on the excellent OM Hip Hop imprint, home to people under the stairs.his latest release is available now and it’s some serious shit. side 1 features the track Foundation with the fabulous Replife on the vocals. side 2 gives you Time To Cut with Miles Bonny. listen to it here: http://www.myspace.com/spinnerty or http://www.spinnerty.com check out his other releases too. now on to the music………turn that shit up
